"Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow" ("Ieri, oggi, domani")

The 1963 film, shot by the famous Vittorio De Sica, consists of three short stories, all three played by Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni. All three novels show us a completely different pair. In the first short story - these are "people of the people", loud, noisy, poor, in a word, this is Naples. Critics noted that the roles of ordinary Italians Lauren worked out better, and this is no coincidence. The streets of Naples are the artist’s native environment, which she absorbed with her mother’s milk.

The second short story is a story about a rich lady who decided to have an intrigue with a signor of a very modest affluence. Here Lauren is a stupid bourgeois, but nevertheless charming, in the final of the film is carried off into the distance with another potential lover on Ferrari.

And the third short story is the most famous, narrating about a woman of easy virtue. Here, Loren suddenly turns from a kept woman to a sympathetic and modest woman, determining the path of a true seminarian. In 1964, this film was called by the press and critics the best joint project. Of course, it could not be otherwise. The formula was perfectly composed: the genius of the writer and playwright Eduardo De Filippo, multiplied by the talent of Lauren and Mastroianni. The dramatic, universal for women of all nations, the story of love and separation, betrayal and happy family reunion was accepted with a bang. And the big names themselves - Filumena Marturano and Domenico Soriano - became common nouns. No translations or explanations were required. We say Filumena - we mean Sofia, we say Soriano - we mean Mastroianni.

"Sunflowers" (I girasoli)

Probably, in the Soviet Union there was not a single person of middle age who did not watch this film. Loving each other Giovanna and Antonio get married, but the young spouse is soon sent to the Eastern Front. Soon the terrible news comes: Antonio went missing. After many years, Giovanna travels to the Soviet Union to find her husband. And then the story itself begins. Antonio is alive and has a second family. It is very interesting to look at Sophia Loren and Mastroianni against the backdrop of Russian landscapes, and especially next to the no less beautiful Soviet actress Lyudmila Savelyeva, who is familiar to the Western audience by the Oscar-winning role of Natasha Rostova in War and Peace.

"Bravo, doll!" (La Pupa Del Gangster)

The name also translates as "Gangster and the kitty," "Gangster doll." The genre of crime comedy itself, combined with the names of Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni, is already worth it to curiosity and watch the film. Critics, however, have expressed doubts that the story will be able to gather enough viewers.

"Pret-a-Porter"

The infamous Robert Altman film seemed to gather almost all the representatives of show business and celebrity. Woven from many microhistories, the film is interesting, first of all, by the next successful alliance of Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni. The director decided to play with the audience: the heroine Loren again demonstrates a high class and shows a striptease in which the viewer cannot help but recognize the striptease of a prostitute from "Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow".

Evil tongues fumbled about the love affair between the actors, but they themselves strongly denied this.

“There was a community between us that I can’t even compare closely with any of my many partners in the movie,” says Sofia Loren (with emphasis on the first syllable, that’s how her name is pronounced in Italy).
