Bari Airport in Italy: how to get from the airport to your hotel

Karol Wojtyla International Airport (or Palese Airport) is located 8–9 km northwest of the Italian city of Bari. Unfortunately, there are no regular direct flights from Russia and Ukraine to Bari Airport. Nevertheless, if you are an avid traveler, it is likely that you will end up here sooner or later, because the air harbor is respected by the European low-cost airlines. That is why today BlogoItaliano will tell you in detail how to get from the airport to Bari.

Bus companies at Bari airport

From Bari Airport to the city center can be reached by buses of several companies. The end point of both routes is the train station. Traditionally, consider both options.

Terravision Buses

One of the most convenient carriers not only in Bari, but Italy in general - Terravision low-cost airline. Terravision buses are known for their low prices, mostly brand-new and well-maintained buses, as well as their commitment to timetables.

Terravision buses leave from a stop at the exit of the terminal (see map below) and follow to Bari train station with a frequency of 1 hour. The first - leaves at 5:35 in the morning, the last - at 20:00. There is a separate night flight at 00:10. On the way to the city will have to spend about 30 minutes.

It is noteworthy that the low-cost airline allows you to buy tickets in advance online so that you do not waste time locating machines and standing in line at the ticket office.

Like many low-cost airlines, buying online in advance is cheaper than on the spot. If your plane is delayed, the purchased ticket can be used on any other flight on the same day.

The cost of tickets for the year 2019 is from 4 Euros one way. In 2016, in Rome, Blogoitaliano tried the service on itself and recorded a separate video instruction about this experience.

Important: Terravision ticket must be printed and carried with you to use it for boarding the bus. You can clarify route details and the current schedule, as well as purchase tickets online on the carrier’s website.

Tempesta Buses

Tempesta is another carrier operating between Bari Airport and the train station. You can find the Tempesta bus stop by following the signs at the airport.

Tempesta buses go from Bari Airport to the central train station

From the airport to the final stop - the railway station "Bari Centrale" - the bus takes 30-40 minutes, making several stops along the way. The fare will cost 4 Euros (2019). In many ways, this option is an alternative to Terravision, only the Tempesta bus fleet is far from being so new.

Train to Bari

In addition to buses, you can get from Bari airport to the city by train. The railway line connecting the city with the air harbor was built just a few years ago.

You can get to the station by following the signs from the arrivals sector. On weekdays, trains run every half hour. The movement starts at 5:26 and ends at 23:38. On holidays - from 06:00 to 23:40, the train runs every 40 minutes.

Railway station at Bari Airport

The fare to Bari is slightly more expensive than by bus - 5 euros (2019). You can pay for the ticket at the ticket office at the station. A train ticket must be composted before boarding in special composters on the platform.

How to get from Bari Airport by taxi

Taxi from the airport will be especially convenient for travelers with children, large luggage, as well as those for whom Bari is just an intermediate stop on the way.

A car at Bari Airport can be found in a specialized parking lot at the terminal or booked in advance - via the Internet - at the arrival of your flight. Most foreign travelers prefer the online option.

Of course, local authorities are trying to deal with the abuses of city taxi drivers, but getting into the "leftist" out of inexperience is not so difficult. Moreover, among local drivers slightly increase the fare for the traveler not considered something too shameful

The taxi driver will benefit from the language barrier and the complicated tariff schedule: there are daily and night tariffs, as well as increased fares on weekends and holidays. The daily rate "works" from 06:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on weekdays.

On weekends, the daily tariff starts at the same time - at 06:00, but ends much earlier - at 15:00. The night rate is valid, respectively, the rest of the time.

If you order a taxi from Bari airport via the Internet, the possibility of manipulating the tariff is excluded. The system calculates the fare online, and it is known to the passenger long before boarding the car.

Taxi from Bari Airport

When ordering via the Internet, the car arrives at the airport specifically for the passenger at the time of boarding his flight. At the same time, dispatchers independently track the airport board, sending the car exactly on time, even if the flight is delayed.

A meeting with a client occurs, as a rule, at the exit from the baggage claim area, and you can identify your driver by a sign in your hands with the name of the customer. Just in case, all the details are additionally duplicated to the passengers email.

If necessary, you can indicate at the ordering stage the need for child car seats - this is strictly in Italy. Finding a vehicle equipped with them on the spot will be much more difficult.

A trip from the airport to Bari to the center takes about 20 minutes. Tariffs for mid-2019 are shown in the screenshot above. To clarify the current tariffs for the duration of your trip, ask questions to the Russian-speaking customer support service or order a car by the time of your arrival, please follow this link.

Car rental at Bari Airport

Another way to get from Bari Airport to your destination is rent a car, which will be especially convenient for those who plan to explore not only the city, but also want to travel to interesting places in the vicinity. For example, from Bari it really makes sense to plan a trip to Alberobello - look at the famous trulli.

As for car rental services at the airport, they can of course be found on the spot, but it is better to do this in advance - online. The fact is that renting on the spot is usually the most expensive.

It’s more profitable to pick up a car through specialized online price comparison services (for example, Rentalcars, popular in Europe).

The only “but”: finding a suitable car, better to book immediately. In the South, at the height of the season, economic offers are not delayed for a long time. You can compare current car rental conditions at Bari Airport on this page.

As for the ride itself, the traffic rules in Italy are largely similar to Russian ones. The speed limit on the highway on the way to the city is 90 km / h, in the city itself - 50 km / h. The A-14 motorway leads from the airport to the city. Just follow it and pay attention to the signs.

Well, of course, resist the temptation to break the rules. Read more about trips around Italy by car is best read in the article "Rent a car in Italy: everything you need to know when booking a car."

Here are ways to get from the airport to Bari. As you can see, whenever you arrive at the Karol Wojtyla Airport, you can always easily reach the city and settle in a hotel, or immediately start a walk through the sights.

Separate shops and boutiques are scattered along the central streets, and go to the large shopping center through the whole city. Therefore, in my opinion, the Castel Romano outlet is a good alternative for shopping.
